Montreal-based artist Smoluk crafted a series of shoe sculptures to celebrate Nike’s Air Max Day 2018. Entirely handmade from cardboard and various media, the artworks center upon the popular Air Max 90 silhouette in a striking array of motifs including the classic “Infrared” colorway. Accompanying the sculptures is a limited archival pigment print (14” x 18”), spotlighting the AM90-inspired artworks.

“Sneakers addicts accumulate tons of kicks and often don’t wear them at all: shoes are turned into pieces of art. I wanted to represent my collection of kicks in the same way,” said Smoluk in a statement. “Additionally, using carton was also a way for me to denounce mass consumption. It usually takes me 20 hours approximately to produce one shoe. All my creations are handmade.”

Check out select artworks above and head over to 1xRUN to purchase each sculpture for approximately $250 USD. The print will set you back around $50 USD unframed. For more Air Max Day 2018 news, check out our announcement on this week’s footwear releases.
