After a disappointing run during 2014’s Winter Olympics held in Sochi — finishing one position off the podium — Shaun White found redemption today in Pyeongchang, South Korea, breaking an Olympic record in the process. The famed snowboarder/skateboarder found his footing today, putting up a final clean run during the halfpipe competition to claim his third Olympic gold, the first snowboarder in Olympic history to ever do so. After falling out of first place during previous runs, White’s score on his third and final run was 97.75, dropping his rival Ayumu Hirano back to silver; Scotty James of Australia took bronze.
On his final run, the Flying Tomato threw down a back-to-back double cork 1400s, claiming the 100th gold medal for Team USA in Winter Games history.
