Joaquin Phoenix in Talks to Play Joker in Upcoming Origin Film

Following news of Warner Bros. targeting Leonardo DiCaprio for the Martin Scorsese-produced Joker Origins film, Joaquin Phoenix has been revealed to be director Todd Phillips’ first choice.
According to reports, although studio negotiations haven’t started yet, Phoenix is already set on playing The Clown Prince of Crime. Set to be co-written and directed by Phillips, the currently unnamed Joker Origins film is set to launch DC Comics‘ new banner that brings different story angles to its cinematic universe. The Origin film will be set in the 1980s and sport a gritty tone in its exploration of the Joker’s rise to infamy.
