Tee Grizzley Thinks Detroit Artists Don't Get the Shine They Deserve
Tee Grizzley talks making his debut album ‘Activated,’ his new mixtape ‘Still My Moment,’ LeBron James and more.
MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. For our newest episode, we have Tee Grizzley as our special guest.
Tee Grizzley exploded onto the music scene with his breakout single “First Day Out,” which originally dropped in November 2016. A few months after the release, the song’s momentum gradually began to build from outside of his hometown of Detroit to across the web. The video now sits at over 100 million YouTube plays, peaking at No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100, landing him a deal with 300 Entertainment, plus going platinum. Now a free man and officially off probation — his ability to travel and do shows were severely handicapped — Tee Grizzley is ready to make himself a global name. However, he’s not sure if the music industry will allow him to fully spotlight.
“To be an artist from Detroit…well, you automatically got the industry against you because they don’t click with the Detroit music,” Grizzley says. “Like for some reason, the people, it just don’t go as far as it should go and it’s crazy because if people really understand what them people was talking about they know how talented they is.”
For this episode, Tee Grizzley discusses making his debut album Activated and his new mixtape Still My Moment. He also describes what a 13-hour studio session feels like, Detriot’s music scene and the lack of spotlight they receive.
Most recently, the “First Day Out” artist shared a new mixtape dubbed Still My Moment back in November. Grizzley’s latest project features guest appearances from the likes of Quavo, Chance The Rapper, Lil Pump and more. The 15-track release follows his debut album, Activated, which dropped back in May.
