J.I.D Wants to Become the Next Big Scriptwriter
The Dreamville signee discusses the making of his newest project ‘DICAPRIO 2,’ his favorite movies and much more.
MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. For our newest episode, we have J.I.D as our special guest.
The Atlanta native began making a name of himself in his hometown as part of the collective Spillage Village, which consists of EarthGang, Jordxn Bryant and Hollywood JB. The group of friends released two albums, Bears Like This and Bears Like This Too, while J.I.D dropped his first installment of DICAPRIO in between the group compilations. After three national tours and momentum riding high, J.I.D signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville label in 2017 and a few months later he dropped his critically-acclaimed project The Never Story. Following the tape, J.I.D was elected as an XXL Freshman for 2018 and has his highly-anticipated DICAPRIO 2 project coming out on November 26. Success is a slow and steady process for J.I.D. but he credits his consistency as a big reason why he’s where he’s at now.
“I hate being so generic but the shit is true though, bro, like, ni*%as been saying like, ‘Alright, you got to be consistent, you know what I’m saying, and find out what you want to do,’” he explains. “I hate saying shit like that but it’s really the f*cking truth.”
For this episode, J.I.D discusses making his newest project DICAPRIO 2, his favorite movies, his love for sports and so much more.
You can check out J.I.D’s latest singles, “151 Rum” and the J. Cole-assisted “Off Deez,” plus look out for his upcoming project DICAPRIO 2 when it drops on all streaming platforms on November 26.
