Kendrick Lamar & JAY-Z Lead 2018 Grammy Nominations

Last year, Beyoncé led the 2017 Grammy Awards nominations, and now this year her husband is following suit. Hov is leading the way this year with eight nominations, including the coveted album of the year for 4:44. He’ll also be joined in the top Grammy category by Kendrick Lamar (DAMN.), Childish Gambino (Awaken! My Love), Bruno Mars (24k Magic) and Lorde (Melodrama). In addition to JAY-Z leading this year’s pack with eight nominations, Kendrick Lamar picked up seven, while Bruno Mars earned six. Childish Gambino also managed to net five nominations himself while Drake, who would’ve likely been nominated multiple times as well, didn’t submit his tracklist for contention in time if you recall earlier this year.
Regarding this year’s nominees, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow says it makes “a great statement about diversity: not only in terms of the artists, but the membership that makes those choices,” also adding, “It also shows that hip-hop and urban music is so prevalent. It pervades society to an extent where it really is reflective of the times, and that’s how we would wish to be presenting our nominations in any given year. In some respects, it may be historic and that’s something we’re very proud of.”
If you recall, last year’s Grammy Awards was a night of controversy after many felt Beyonce was snubbed.
Meanwhile, the 60th annual Grammy Awards will be taking place at Madison Square Garden and will broadcast live on CBS on January 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
