Gucci Announces New "Research Lab" Project
Looking at how different factors shape the luxury industry.

Capping off a big year for the Italian house, Gucci has now announced a new project with Bocconi University, a prestigious school based in Milan, with the two working on the Gucci Research Lab. The three-year research project will see four professors look into a range of factors relating to success in the luxury industry. These topics will include a start-up mentality, employee empowerment and risk-taking and how they relate to performance and growth in the industry. The findings will be published every year in a publicly available paper.
Announcing the initiative, Marco Bizarri, Gucci’s president and chief executive explained how the project “is designed to reveal important insights that large and small companies can learn from. More than ever before, a company’s culture can be the differentiating factor in terms of competitive advantage.” The research lab is part of a wider partnership between Gucci and Bocconi, with students on the university’s Luxury Talent and Corporate Associate programmes gaining internships at the Italian fashion house.
Gucci has also recently revealed some of the secrets to its success, including a “shadow committee” of millennial advisors.
