Summary

Rocket Lab unveiled GHOST, a deployable launch system packing rockets, ground support, and range control into standard shipping containers.

Debuting at Alaska's Pacific Spaceport Complex with two pads, GHOST expands Rocket Lab's footprint to six global launch pads.

Rocket Lab has unveiled a new full-suite launch infrastructure system called GHOST that can be transported, deployed and operated virtually anywhere on the planet. By packing ground support, range control and the rockets themselves into standard shipping containers, the aerospace company aims to bypass current spaceport bottlenecks. The system is specifically engineered to support the brand’s Electron orbital rocket and its HASTE hypersonic test vehicle.

The modular technology will make its operational debut in 2027 at the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska. Designated as Rocket Lab Launch Complex 4, the site will feature two pads dedicated to high-frequency campaigns. This expansion brings the company’s total footprint to six operational pads across two hemispheres, complementing existing infrastructure in New Zealand and Virginia. The Alaska deployment serves a massive $266 million multi-launch agreement with the U.S. Space Force covering 12 suborbital missions with an option to add six more.

Beyond simply increasing launch cadence, the Global Hypersonic & Orbital Spaceport Technology offers strategic redundancy for military operations. Recent global conflicts have heavily depleted American missile reserves, sparking a surge in Department of Defense demand for high-speed hardware testing. The current domestic space infrastructure faces severe strain from record-breaking orbital activity. By allowing mobile launch pads to be set up rapidly in undisclosed locations, the new platform provides a failsafe against potential attacks on fixed spaceports during future orbital conflicts.

Company founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck highlighted the platform’s strategic value for national security. He noted that creating a deployable system packages proven reliability into a flexible format capable of serving vital programs globally. The overarching flat-pack approach to spaceports addresses the massive launch capability crunch while cementing the brand’s position as a dominant force in the responsive orbital logistics sector.
