Will you be switching to Lyft, Gett or another competitor?

According to research from academics at New York University and the University of Warwick in England, Uber drivers in both New York City and London have been rigging surge pricing. It should come as no surprise that driver’s would want some sort of control on rates as their livelihood depends on it. Uber has long had an issue with transparency as evidenced by it’s ban from Italy in April and former CEO Travis Kalanick’s resignation in June, but the company says that it has safeguards to prevent the its system from being manipulated. “This behavior is neither widespread or permissible on the Uber platform, and we have technical safeguards in place to help prevent it from happening,” the company commented to The Times. Over 1,100 posts on uberpeople.net, a forum for drivers of the company, was analyzed along with driver interviews in both regions to arrive at the conclusion.
