In game one of the 2001 NBA finals, Allen Iverson put on a folkloric performance. A.I. scored 48 points and had five assists, six rebounds and six steals. However, the moment most fans remember from that game, which was Philadelphia’s only victory in the series, is Iverson stepping over Tyronn Lue. It’s a highlight that’s been replayed and revisited frequently.
Lue guarded Iverson closely in the overtime period, but the elusive point guard still managed to create space with his crossover. Iverson would step back and hit a 20 foot jumper that gave the 76ers a four point lead. Then, he stepped over Lue, inciting the crowd and an energetic Marv Albert, who was announcing the game.
Reebok is commemorating the iconic “step over” moment by re-releasing the Reebok Answer IV shoes he wore during the game. On Friday, June 9, Philly-based boutique Lapstone & Hammer will host a celebration as they will exclusively release the shoes. Iverson is slated to appear at the event, as is DJ Clark Kent. The only way to attend the party is to purchase one of the first 100 pairs of the shoe in-store. There will be 20 “golden tickets” raffled off to customers for a VIP meet-and-greet with Iverson. The Reebok Answer IV “Step Over” will be available in-store and online at Lapstone & Hammer.
The exclusive release party takes place from 7-10 p.m. EST at the address below.
