New Clip Released in Honor of 'Studio Ghibli Fest' Shows Hayao Miyazaki's Imagination
Take a peek into the mind of one of animation’s greatest influencers.
Studio Ghibli‘s distributor GKIDS have released a clip from the 2013 documentary The King of Dreams and Madness to celebrate Studio Ghibli Fest, a summer long retrospective of legendary creator Hayao Miyazaki.
The short clip takes place during production of what was supposed to be Miyazaki’s final Ghibli project before retirement. He and filmmaker Mami Sunada share a moment, letting their minds wonder at the scenery of rooftops across the landscape. Quickly, Miyazaki’s imagination takes hold, as he describes an action scene straight out of one of his films taking place on the roofs below. Miyazaki describes it as a “fun way of looking at things.” The clip also stitches in scenes that will air as part of Studio Ghibli Fest from June through November.
My Neighbor Totoro will kick things off, as it will be coming to theaters across the United States June 26. Check GKIDS for tickets.
