Watch the All-Electric Lucid Air Easily Go Over 200 MPH
Look out Tesla.
After previewing the Lucid Air back in December, we now have a video from Lucid Motors of its electric sedan prototype doing 217 mph. With software limiting the car’s maximum speed to 217 mph, the Air hit its max speed on a 7.5-mile track in Ohio and Lucid says that data will help make improvements to the final version which is expected to hit production in 2019. It’s worth noting that the chief technology officer of Lucid, Peter Rawlinson, was previously the chief engineer for the Tesla Model S. With the base model estimated to have 400 horsepower and retail for around $53,000 USD and a fully-loaded model of the Air coming in with 1,000 horsepower and costing over $100,000 USD, Tesla may have a serious competitor in the very near future.
Check out the video above and look for the Lucid Air at the New York International Auto Show which starts tomorrow, April 14, and runs through April 23.
