'Star Wars' Celebration Pays Homage to Carrie Fisher
May the Force be with you.
Today marked the start of this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida, the highlight of which was undoubtedly the highly anticipated 40 Years of Star Wars panel. The commemorative discussion saw everyone from George Lucas and Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy to Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Billy Dee Williams, Hayden Christensen and Anthony Daniels take the stage. And to close things out? A fittingly touching tribute to the late Carrie Fisher.
Screened for the fans in attendance and uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel, the five-minute piece looks back on Fisher’s importance to the franchise and not only includes archival footage of her work on the films, but appearances from various cast and crew members as they reflect on the actress and her iconic character. Composer John Williams even capped off the tribute by playing Princess Leia’s theme for the attendees.
The tribute follows the news that Fisher will indeed be making an appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is due to hit theaters December 15.
