A Singing Oyster Was the Most Viral YouTube Video of 2017
“Despacito,” Ed Sheeran and Bad Lip Reading also scored big.
YouTube‘s most popular videos of the year have been revealed, and while some numbers are expected, others may come as a complete shock.
Although “Despacito” was the most viewed video of the year, racking up nearly 4.5 billion views, YouTube ranks music videos in their own separate category. In terms of non-music video clips, an upload of one event from Thailand’s talent show THE MASK SINGER 2 took the top spot. The show focuses on masked celebrities obscuring their identities with intricate costumes and performing songs. Standing tall at 182 million views, Oyster Mask’s “Until We Will Become Dust” became the year’s top trending video. Ed Sheeran appeared at #2 on both lists with the official music video and a choreography clip of his “Shape of You” sweeping the site.
Dude Perfect took the non-music video #3 spot, followed by America’s Got Talent and Ed Sheeran’s Carpool Karaoke video. Check out the full playlist of videos on the YouTube Rewind page.
