Apple Is Once Again the Biggest Wearables Maker on Earth
The new Apple Watch proves to be unstoppable.
Despite coming up short in a trustworthy survey, Apple has regained its crown as the world’s premier manufacturer of wearables, knocking Xiaomi, a Chinese tech company, from its perch.
Thanks to Apple’s third-generation Apple Watch, the tech monolith has reported 3.9 million shipments for the third quarter of 2017. The watch, Apple’s first wearable able to connect to the internet without smartphone tethering, boosts Apple’s wearable sales up by a million units from last year, when the company reported 2.8 million shipments for Q3 2017. Following Xiaomi, Fitbit took third place, claiming 20% of the quarter’s wearable shipments.
With the holidays on the horizon, the companies’ most profitable quarter is likely yet to come. Apple’s iPhone X, in particular, has delivered strong numbers.
