A Closer Look at Stone Island's 2017 Spring/Summer Hand Corrosion Collection
A technique mastered by the Italian label.
Stone Island creates beautiful pieces of clothing out of passion. In a recent interview with HYPEBEAST, Carlo Rivetti insists that the key to success is passion: “First of all, the passion for the product. And passion for what is surrounding us.” It should come as no surprise then that the Italian label produces its pieces using incredibly time-intensive and detail-oriented techniques like hand corrosion.
Hand corrosion entails that garments be dyed with special color recipes and then faded by hand with a corrosive paste. The iconic Stone Island badge is added to each piece during the fading process and thus incorporates the same corrosion marks. Any residual dye remaining on the surface of the garment — whether it be cotton satin, knits, sweatshirts or bottoms — highlights the design and ingenuity that took place. Finally, because this process is done by hand, each garment is unique and unrepeatable.
