Russell Westbrook Inks Contract Extension With OKC, But Shouldn't Expect a "Congrats" From KD Any Time Soon
Signed, sealed and delivered.
Oklahoma City’s lone survivor, Russell Westbrook, aims to take the Thunder to the promised land with the weight of a franchise on his shoulders. Coming after much speculation that the electric guard would be shipped to various NBA teams, Westbrook has finally sealed the deal to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The official extension deal is worth $85.7 million USD over the span of three years. Westbrook has spent his entire eight-year NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder and has helped lead them to numerous playoff appearances as well as an NBA Finals stint in 2012. Averaging 21.5 points, 7.6 assists and 5.6 throughout his career so far, Russell is known to be a triple-double machine with an attitude that pumps up his teammates and fans.
With Kevin Durant in transition to join the Golden State Warriors, it has created a “touchy” vibe between the two, according to Durant. As reports reveal that KD never gave Westbrook a heads up in regards to his departure, the relationship between the once dynamic duo will obviously never be the same. As Durant preps for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio, he plans on having a sit-down with his former teammate to clear the air stating “I’ll see when this is over and when everything dies down. At some point, we’ll sit down and talk. But I don’t know when.”
What are your thoughts on Westbrook’s extension? Do you think he can lead the OKC Thunder to a championship in the future without KD?
