Sony is taking a break from the subtle matte look for something significantly bolder with the PlayStation Hyperpop Collection, a new lineup of DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 console covers defined by neons and glossy blacks. Available in three distinct colorway — Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue — the collection draws direct inspiration from the glowing RGB ecosystems that dominate modern gaming setups.
Design nuances set this drop apart from previous colorways. According to the PlayStation Color, Material, and Finish team, the controllers feature a seamless gradient wrapped in a high-gloss coat, differentiating from the original matte texture. The matching console covers mirror this energy, integrating a subtle hint of transparency. Designers Leo Cardoso and Sae Kobayashi emphasize that the goal was to create hardware that doesn’t just in a room but “takes over” with the same intensity as custom lighting rigs.
The Hyperpop DualSense controllers are priced at $84.99 USD, while the limited-quantity console covers will retail for $74.99 USD. Pre-orders open on January 16, at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET via the PlayStation webstore and selected retailers. The full collection is officially scheduled to hit shelves on March 12.
