TAG Heuer has quietly released a new limited-edition timepiece celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year: the Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse.
On the design front, this particular reference takes on a more tamed and elegant approach. Instead of emblazoning the watch face with creative depictions of the zodiac animal, TAG Heuer presents a champagne-gold sunray-brushed dial in a warm ember gradient. To honor the Horse’s seventh position in the Chinese zodiac, the numeral “7” in the red date window is replaced by the simplified Chinese character for horse (“马”).
Housed in a 39mm stainless steel case, the watch comes fitted in the Maisons’ signature Glassbox style — a design revival that pays homage to the domed hesalite crystals of the ’60s and 70s. The dial is further accented by 18K 5N rose gold-plated hands and indices, alongside a fiery red gradient sub-dial. This is paired with a polished and brushed seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet, providing both ergonomic comfort and a subtle nod to the vintage Heuer bracelets of the mid-20th century.
Inside, the watch is powered by the in-house Calibre TH20-07, a modern automatic column-wheel chronograph movement visible through a sapphire caseback featuring a printed motif of a galloping horse. This movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph and offers a robust 80-hour power reserve.
Priced at $7,850 USD, the Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse is limited to just 250 individually numbered pieces worldwide, available at select TAG Heuer boutiques and online.
