Martine Rose FW25 Interrogates the Power of the Outcast

Exploring how the artifacts and ideas relegated to margins become the building blocks of the subcultural vanguard.

For FW25, Martine Rose reprises the lo-fi art direction and distorted facial prosthetics introduced in her SS25 campaign, inviting questions surrounding the definition of beauty and taste. With discordant branding, kitschy prints and patterns, and vintage silhouettes from disparate eras, Rose’s latest collection explores the depths where subcultures thrive, from London’s dusty secondhand markets to underground rave dancefloors.

In a release from the brand, Rose said “I’ve always been interested in finding beauty in the cracks and the crevices of culture. After having those shows where people were relatable and familiar, I wanted to ask: Can I distort someone’s traditional beauty and still find them sexy? And actually I can.”

Rose’s unconventional approach to design and styling points to the free expression built into her brand ethos, which has caught eyes throughout the industry for its genre-agnostic, cross-cultural influences. Moments led by velour animal prints and 90s-inspired patterns add textural contrast to Martine Rose-branded football jerseys and outdoor gear including military parkas and motorsport jackets.

On the bottom half, basketball shorts, acid-washed jeans, oversized pleated trousers and workwear pants are styled with just about anything and everything. Standing out from the pants is a pair of leather fringe trousers shown in a duo of black and red colorways.

Souvenir-style caps, fetishwear belts and chain embellishments round out each look with added character, and a new Martine Rose handbag made with Ostrich-embossed leather appears in several numbers. Finally, chunky toe boxes, various leather uppers, and silver hardware characterize the boot-driven footwear lineup.

As of the time of writing Martine Rose has not shared the official release date for the forthcoming collection so stay tuned to Hypebeast for further updates.
