It’s moments like the “Flu Game” that contribute to a player’s mythology. The Air Jordan 12 aptly carries the spirit of resilience that Michael Jordan personified during his 15-season career, particularly in that Game 5 Finals matchup against the John Stockton-led Utah Jazz.

Jordan Brand will soon release a “Barons” colorway that features a two-tone upper made of black tumbled leather, complemented by “Wolf Grey” accents along the underfoot and midsole that waves from the toe to the heel — aesthetically paying homage to Jordan’s playing days for the Birmingham Barons. Additional highlights include Air Jordan branding at the sole, a Jumpman logo on the tongue and contrasting metal eyelets.

27 years on, the “Flu Game” continues to stand out as one of the most awe-inspiring performances in the history of sports. Jordan, fresh off four NBA titles up until that point, was visibly ill going into Game 5 in Utah. It was a pivotal matchup that would ultimately swing the series lead. As legend has it: Five undisclosed people delivered a pizza to the Bulls’ hotel and Jordan unsuspectedly ate a few slices, leading to severe stomach nausea.

It was later determined that he suffered from food poisoning, with many believing the Jazz had a hand in the illicit affairs. While most would be hard-pressed to leave their beds during food poisoning, Jordan went on to play 44 minutes, scoring 38 points and defeating the Jazz 90-88, ultimately leading to his fifth Larry O’Brien Trophy.
