This week, the tech industry saw Samsung host its Galaxy Unpacked showcase, in which is revealed a handful of new hardware, including wearable tech and updated mobile devices.
A big week for product developments, Nothing’s subsidiary label CMF also announced its lineup of imminent tech, including it’s first-ever phone, as well as updated iterations of its earbuds and watch, and Apple is reportedly working on a Series 10 Apple Watch that boasts an Ultra-sized screen.
Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top tech stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.
CMF by Nothing continues to expand its range. Nothing’s subsidiary brand revealed another trio of devices including its debut smartphone, CMF Phone 1, and second-generation iterations of its earbuds and smartwatch, CMF Buds Pro 2 and CMF Watch Pro 2.
The first foray into phones, the CMF Phone 1 is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 5G chipset and an impressive 5,000 mAh battery.
The new CMF Watch Pro 2 and CMF Buds Pro 2 mark CMF’s first time creating a second version of a product, and each builds on the debut models that launched last September. Powered by aa 300mAh battery that lasts “up to 11 days”, the watch can also monitor heart rate, blood oxygen saturation and “stress levels.”
As for the CMF Buds Pro 2, the earbuds resurface now in a blue hue and come equipped with a battery that ensures a total of 43 hours of battery with the included charging case. Six high-definition microphones plus Clear Voice Technology 2.0 and Wind-Noise Reduction 2.0 also promise active noise-canceling.
Despite shying away from revealing any new hardware updates during 2024’s WWDC back in June, Apple has revealed some updates landing for the Apple Watch. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, for the Watch’s tenth year on the market, the imminent Series 10 will feature an Apple Watch Ultra-sized screen.
Apple also offers a new chip for the Series 10 and Ultra 3 – a potential power for some of the Watch’s AI features in the pipeline.
Finally, Apple is also reportedly swapping the Apple Watch SE’s aluminum shell for a plastic one.
Samsung hosted its second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2024, the stage for the tech company to unveil its forthcoming fleet of gadgets.
July’s Galaxy Unpacked saw the reveal of the Galaxy Ring after its Mobile World Conference debut earlier this year. The smart ring gathers personal health data – heart rate, sleep cycles – and arrives in titanium colorways of silver, black and gold.
Elsewhere in wearable tech, Samsung expands its watch range, contributing new models Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra to the lineup – the former, like the smart ring, is also rooted in health tech.
As for phones, Samsung revealed two new Galaxy Z models: the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6. While the Fold6 opens like a book, the “optimized for portability” Flip6 opens vertically. Samsung also released the Galaxy Buds3 series, complete with an “Interpreter” mode, in which the earphones can translate a foreign language directly into the wearer’s ear.
