Seiko Reveals a Yellow Dial Prospex Speedtimer with Pepsi-Style Bezel
A modern reinterpretation of Colonel William Pogue’s 6139 reference.
Seiko has unveiled the Prospex Speedtimer SSC947, a colorful wristwatch that appears to be a modern reinterpretation of the Seiko 6139 “Pogue” chronograph.
A space icon for the brand, the Seiko 6139 “Pogue” was worn by NASA astronaut, Colonel William Pogue on his Skylab 4 mission in 1973. Throughout the years, Seiko has revived numerous of its vintage references but this iconic reference has yet to see a full-fledged reissue. With the latest Prospex Speedtimer SSC947, it’s considered more of a reinterpretation that pays tribute to the model with similar characteristics and design cues.
Measuring 41.4mm in case width, the SSC947 arrives in a stainless steel build, outfitted with a Pepsi-style bezel. Its rehaut and three chronograph subcounters are doused in a matte black, creating a bold contrast between the blue and red bezel and its sunray yellow dial.
The reference runs on a V192 solar movement, which offers around 6 months of power reserve when fully charged. The Prospex Speedtimer SSC947 is set to release in August this year with a retail price point of $700 USD. For more information, head over to Seiko’s official website.
