Earning the prestigious “Ultra Fine Accuracy” (U.F.A.) designation, this 33-jewel self-winding caliber delivers an annual accuracy rating of ±20 seconds – or approximately ±3 seconds per month – placing it among the most accurate wristwatch movements powered by a mainspring. Hand-assembled by skilled craftsmen and women at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, the movement achieves its precision by vacuum sealing the crystal oscillator together with a low-power IC.
Prior to assembly, each oscillator undergoes a three-month aging process for frequency stabilization, after which its frequency is measured across multiple temperatures so that tailored data can be programmed into the IC for precise thermo-compensation. This sealed capsule minimizes the impact of external variables including temperature, humidity, static electricity, and light. Built with long-term serviceability in mind, the movement also features an integrated regulation switch for after-sales service to correct potential divergences in accuracy over extended use, while driving a 72-hour power reserve and a dial-side power-reserve indicator within compact caliber dimensions measuring 30.0mm in diameter and 4.7mm in thickness.

While built for deep-water functionality, providing 300 meters of water resistance alongside 4,800 A/m of magnetic resistance secured by a screw-down crown and a solid screw case back, the watch never feels purely utilitarian. Precise operational adjustment underwater is handled by a rotating bezel fitted with a ceramic insert that offers superior resistance to scratches and corrosion. To enhance wrist presence despite the reduced dimensions, ensuring it complements both a wetsuit and a tailored cuff, the lugs feature a broad profile designed to capture and reflect light across a wide surface.

Their rectangular shape accommodates sufficient Lumibrite, working alongside sharply defined, Lumibrite-filled hour and minute hands beneath a sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating to deliver instant legibility at a glance. These display elements frame the textured “Ushio” (tide) dial, which utilizes a gradient design to reflect the sea waters surrounding the Japanese archipelago — a nod to Grand Seiko’s deep reverence for nature.
The pattern is presented in two expressive variations: a blue gradient capturing light streaming into the deep ocean, and a green gradient inspired by the tranquil beauty of shallow coastal waters near the shore. Completing the timepiece is a newly developed locking extension clasp designed for versatile wear. It features a three-step micro-adjustment system with up to 6mm of fine-tuning for everyday comfort. Together with an 18mm diving suit extension, the clasp provides up to 24mm of total adjustment, while the GS emblem doubles as a locking mechanism to prevent accidental release.
