Apple May Be Bringing an Ultra-Sized Screen to the Series Watch 10

The company is reportedly also introducing a new chip to power AI features.

Apple notably didn’t announce any major hardware news during its 2024 WWDC last month, opting to focus on its new in-house AI, Apple Intelligence. The company does, however, have some changes coming to the Apple Watch lineup, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported.

As the Watch approaches its tenth year on the market, Apple is giving the Series lineup – the original Apple Watch roster – a revamp. According to Gurman, the forthcoming Series 10 will be getting a screen the same size as the Apple Watch Ultra.

The Ultra’s two-inch display serves to differentiate the model from other watches, so it’s unclear what the selling point of the Ultra 3 will be, which Apple is reportedly planning to release in September.

Other fixes coming to the Watch lineup somewhat expectedly include a new chip for the Series 10 and Ultra 3 that’ll power some of the AI features down the road, Gurman notes. For the time being, Apple users should only expect to see Apple Intelligence on their iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Elsewhere, Apple is reportedly cutting the cost of its $249 USD Apple Watch SE by swapping an aluminum shell out for plastic. The change would allow the company to lower the price of the watch to compete with Samsung’s $199 USD Galaxy Watch FE, Gurman reported.

Apple hosts an event focused on the iPhone and Apple Watch every September, so those interested in new hardware will have to wait until the fall to see firsthand what new hardware Apple has in store.
