Awake NY and Union LA's Latest Collaborative Tee Is A Cross-Coast Celebration

Awake NY is celebrating its flagship store’s first anniversary this summer, and as part of the festivities, it’s tapped Union LA for a new collaborative t-shirt. Though the collaboration may be decidedly cross-coastal, it’s a homage to shared roots: Awake NY founder Angelo Baque and Union LA head Chris Gibbs both cut their teeth in the ’90s-’00s downtown NYC scene, Baque through his early days working at the Stüssy store and his later efforts at Supreme, Gibbs via his time working at Union — which, at the time, was ran by Supreme founder James Jebbia — before he brought the store out west to Los Angeles.

The full-circle anniversary tee, which, in a jocular twist, is being announced on Baque’s 46th birthday, is spotlighted in a concise set of images shot by Levi Berlin and starring Freddie Gibbs. On its front, it features Awake NY’s signature wordmark atop Union LA’s “Frontman” logo in small fashion over the left chest. On the rear, it boasts a much larger “La Brea to the LES” graphic that salutes each brand’s home base and includes both stores’ addresses plus a final duo of logos.

Levi Berlin

This is far from the first collaboration between Awake NY and Union LA. Last summer, the two released a capsule that honored the Battle of Curalaba, a 1958 conflict in which Chilean rebels vanquished their Spanish colonizers, and Union LA tapped Awake as one of its 30th-anniversary collaborative partners back in 2021, among other projects.

Expect the Awake NY x Union LA anniversary tee to be released exclusively at the Awake NY flagship, 62 Orchard St in Manhattan, on July 27 at 12 PM EST. The MSRP is set at $60 USD.
