Sacai FW24 Showcases the Emotional Protection of Fashion
Taking hybridization to the next level.

Since the establishment of her label Sacai in 1999, Chitose Abe has carved her own path of confidently creative fused dressing. A master of hybridization, Sacai has continuously refined its appetite for blending streetwear and tailored styles. It’s a complicated dance, but it’s one that Abe knows very well. Just take a look at the brand’s multiple collaborations with Carhartt for example. With the brand’s latest collection for the Fall/Winter 2024 season taking the runway during Paris Fashion Week, Abe decided to take hybridization to the match.
“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life,” said the late fashion photographer Bill Cunningham. Abe utilized the words from Cunningham to fuel her collection as a showcasing of fashion’s emotional protection. Whether it be the confidence we gain from a jacket or the ferocity from accessories, fashion has the power to enchant and bring out one’s truest self. Although that sentiment has been shared throughout time, the magic lies in each designer revealing their unique vision of the matter.
For FW24, a key technique in realizing that power is the strength in silhouettes, particularly oversized. From cropped boxy cuts to billowing pieces that swayed with motion, volume served as a silhouette driver across jackets, dresses, blazers, knitwear and even suits. But alongside expansive proportions, Abe played with texture across delicate yarns, fluffy wools and crocheted knits alongside classic textures like wool and cotton. A special highlight of the collection is Abe’s one-piece dressing. With it, garments like jackets and coats take the form of dresses with attached shirts and underpinnings.
