New Era Celebrates the New York Yankees vs. Diablos Rojos del México Exhibition Series with Special Capsule
A selection of special caps, tees and hoodies — some of which feature both teams’ iconography side by side.
The New York Yankees are headed to Mexico City for a two-game preseason exhibition series against the Diablos Rojos del México on March 24th and 25th, and to celebrate the series New Era has created a unique capsule of apparel that highlights both teams’ signature iconography.
Both the Yankees and the Diablos Rojos have a legacy of championship greatness (the Bronx Bombers have an MLB-record 27 World Series titles while the Scarlet Gang have 16 Mexican League trophies) and share two more key similarities: namely, the pinstripes on their uniforms and their recognizable logos. These pinstripes and logos are spotlighted on the collection’s 59FIFTY and 9FORTY hats, in both standalone and “versus” styles, the latter presenting each team’s logo side-by-side. The “versus” graphic is continued across tees and hoodies, the former of which also boast a commemorative graphic on their back.
When the Yankees take the field at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in Mexico City, they’ll be facing off against the Diablos Rojos for the first time since March 1968, where they split a two-game exhibition series in Yankees legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle‘s final season. Besides star sluggers Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the Yankees are expected to field a lineup of players with Mexican heritage like outfielder Alex Verdugo, catcher Jose Trevino and relief pitcher Victor González. The Diablos Rojos have a handful of ex-MLB stars on their team as well, namely second baseman Robinson Cano, who starred with the Yankees from 2005 to 2013, securing five All-Star nods, five Silver Slugger awards and a World Series ring in that time period, and starting pitcher Trevor Bauer, a former Cy Young Award winner who last pitched in MLB back in 2021 after since-settled accusations of sexual assault and is trying to latch on with another franchise.
