Miu Miu FW24 Takes Us Back to Our Childhood Wardrobe
The ready-to-wear runway is a recollection of how people dress throughout the stages of their lives.
The act of dressing and the garments we gravitate towards changes with age. Children may embrace the mismatched, while adults strive for cohesion. That evolution of the individual’s approach to dress drove Miuccia Prada in the design and execution of Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, debuted at Paris Fashion Week.
Miu Miu has now surpassed 30 years, giving the brand and the namesake designer a spectrum of influences to draw inspiration from. The 68-piece ready-to-wear collection Individual Moments holds a lens up to people’s lives and clothing reflects their development, not only in terms of age but also their character and lifestyle.
The collection commences with outfits evocative of adulthood, professional oversized silhouettes that give the appearance of fashion-forward office wear. Models wore trousers underneath long coats, accessorized with large purses, brooches and pearl necklaces.
Looks segue into pieces endowed with a sense of childlike whimsy. The clothing is quite literally smaller – short dresses are worn with tights and cropped, tight-fitting cardigans are styled with the sleeves rolled up. Miu Miu reflects the nuances of children’s clothing with shoes with rounded toes and a seemingly randomized approach to styling pieces together – a thick gray turtle neck is paired with a colorful floral skirt in one look – emblematic of how a child picks out their own clothing.
“Mnemonic devices, clothes can make us both think back, and project forwards,” Miu Miu said in the show notes. The collection serves as a playful timeline, a snapshot of one’s phases of dressing and the gradual progression that seemingly everyone undergoes.
