Pointy, Puffy and Pyramidal: Junya Watanabe FW24 Leaned into Geometric Shapes in Motion
Fit for the sleek city-goer or stylish supervillain.

Junya Watanabe took loud luxury to new heights in its Paris Fashion Week showcase. For the house’s jet-black Fall/Winter 2024 collection, sculptural fashion was on display, as grandiose geometry silhouettes dominated the runway.
“I want to express the beauty of the contrast between clothes and sculptures,” Watanabe said in a quote to WWD – and did he ever.
The collection’s initial looks focused on triangular figurines. Models were draped in black sheathes and silhouettes, with oversized triangles enveloping different parts of the look. The jutting edges and sharp lines boxed in models’ faces, and many rocked a multitude of belts running down their torsos.
The next round of looks was rooted in more abstract geometry, entangled knots and layered curves featured in a bevy of gowns and other floor-length pieces like coats and capes.
Around halfway through, Watanabe infused some color into the collection, bringing in floral patterns and intermingling them with staunch, stiff leather accenting.
Watanabe also implemented a striking array of prismatic silhouettes into the futuristic collection, closing out with a lineup of Matrix-esque looks, featuring bedazzled accenting and a faux-fur statement coat.
