Skepta Channels His Inner "Tony Montana"
Tapping Nigerian rapper Portable for the new cut and video.
Skepta has served up the latest single lifted from his forthcoming Knife and Fork record. With the help of emerging Nigerian rapper Portable – and Jae5 on production – “Tony Montana” is an upbeat Afrobeats offering that melds grime and Nigerian influences.
“Yeah, I remember, nigbati ebi n pami / Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we drink garri / Now they wanna snap pictures, I live flashy / Who gon’ stop me, huh? Iwo pelu tani,” Skepta enters the celebratory cut, dominating the hard-hitting verses.
Portable handles the chorus, breaking Big Smoke’s heavy flow with his smooth vocals. “Big Smoke pelu tobacco oh / Tony, Tony, Tony Montana oh / Wacko, psycho / I want to explode.”
The bouncy new single comes accompanied by a cinematic visual as well, which sees Skepta and Portable really tapping into their Scarface alter egos. Directed by Capone, the duo, donning ample fur, is posted up outside a grandiose hotel, spitting bars and showing off their dance moves. The boys then roll up to an all-white party, where they continue to be the lives of the party.
