Tinder Is Warning Users When They're Being Inappropriate

Tinder is cracking down on inappropriate and offensive behavior on the platform. While users have always been able to report a profile or match, the app is taking things a step further by being proactive in preventing inappropriate and unwanted interactions.

The app has a new warning system that essentially tells users to be mindful of what they’re saying and if they don’t proceed respectfully, their account is at risk of being banned. The warnings are broken down into three categories: authenticity, respectfulness, and inclusiveness.

When messaging another user, the app will automatically surveil the conversation to ensure it meets those standards. Tinder says it’s specifically on the lookout for signs of harassment, impersonation and even “advertising,” the latter of which seems to imply those advertising sexual services.

The app has a machine-learning algorithm built to employ the system that’ll send offending and receiving users messages along the lines of “Does This Bother You” and “Are You Sure.” It’ll also be utilizing humans to verify potentially inappropriate content. When a user receives a warning, it’ll show up within their chat. If the same violation is repeated by an account more than once, they could be subject to be ousted from the app.

Tinder is planning to roll out the warning system in a few weeks.
