Where Form Meets Function: The North Face Purple Label SS25
In a collection entitled “The Ivy Mountain,” the Japan-based brand blends outerwear with academia.
The North Face Purple Label is constantly reinventing – in the sense that it, literally, reinvents deadstock and pre-owned The North Face fabrics, but also in the way it routinely pushes the needle on its own nanamica-influenced design vision. After unveiling its latest round of upcycled garments, TNF Purple Label – “Designed to comfortably support an urban outdoor lifestyle, allowing people to enjoy nature close to home within urban settings” – has shifted focus to its Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
Entitled “The Mountain Ivy,” the new range introduces outdoor gear to more collegiate-inspired style codes, presenting a practical yet still preppy compilation of clothing.
“By combining THE NORTH FACE’s unique functional fabrics and traditional materials, it mixes outdoor culture with Ivy style, presenting a modern heavy-duty Ivy style called ‘The Mountain Ivy,’” TNF Purple Label explained of the collection in an Instagram caption.
The Japanese imprint leans heavily into oversized fits in The Mountain Ivy, with the most notable pieces spanning water-resistant rain coats – arriving in a handful of different lengths and neutral-hued colorways – as well as similarly crafted skirts and pants. However, on the other end of the spectrum, denim indicates a primary focus of SS25, surfacing in the form of overshirts, pants and jacketing, with easily layer-able long-sleeved shirts and button-downs also standing out.
