This Translucent Record Storage System Is Inspired By the Visual Aspect Of Vinyl Collecting
Dubbed the Aurala120A, the system was designed by Bentolabs — a company founded by the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ former production designer.
Collecting vinyl is one thing — storing it is entirely another. If you’re a wax fiend with hundreds (or thousands) of records, you don’t just need a quality turntable and speakers; you need somewhere that’s both visually appealing and functionally sound to store your records. The past few years have seen more and more entities from the world of design get into the record storage space — from global conglomerates like USM, who partnered with Symbol Audio for an expansive collection, to buzzy, in-the-know thought leaders like the designers at Lichen, one of whom, Thana Pramadono, crafted a “Clove” record holder — and now, Bentolabs, a studio backed by decades of industry experience, has announced its Aurala120A system.
Founded by Grier Govorko, a former production designer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bentolabs aims to fill a specific need with its storage systems. “After two decades of designing stadium-scale concert experiences, I’ve focused on solving a more intimate design challenge: creating modular furniture,” said Govorko. “I wanted to make something that honors the visual and functional aspects of vinyl collecting.
To this end, the Aurala120A is made of transparent acrylic material for a floating display effect, and its modularity enables it to be configured vertically or horizontally. Each unit can display up to 120 records, and multiple units can be combined to accommodate an ever-expanding collection, a detail that Govorko says comes from his days with the Chili Peppers, where he aimed to build stage elements that could work independently but also come together to create a cohesive whole.
