The designer was appointed less than two years ago and has now departed as the game of creative director musical chairs continues.

After being appointed creative director of Helmut Lang in May of last year, Peter Do has exited, according to a statement by the brand and designer that was shared with outlets such as Vogue.

The news comes after Helmut Lang notably did not present a runway show for Spring/Summer 2025 during this most recent round of Fashion Week showcases. Do’s initial show for Spring/Summer 2024 was met with tepid reception, however, his second — and ultimately final — showing received more praise. Despite this progress, he is one of many creative directors to swiftly depart, joining recent brief appointments that include less than a year of Peter Hawkings at Tom Ford, one season of Walter Chiapponi at Blumarine and just under a year and a half of Rhuigi Villaseñor at Bally. For Helmut Lang, it has leaned on various designers such as Hood By Air’s Shayne Oliver for one-off collections since Michael and Nicole Colovos’ time as creative directors concluded a decade ago.

“I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team, who have been integral in supporting my vision. It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang,” shared Do in the announcement. Stay tuned for more news as the ongoing rotation of creative directors continues and Helmut Lang again seeks a new direction. In the meantime, Do will continue to operate his growing eponymous label.
