Peter Hawkings is stepping down as creative director of Tom Ford, less than one year after taking the reins from the label’s namesake founder. The brand’s Spring 2025 collection will be revealed in a showroom format in September, and Hawkings’ successor will be announced soon, per the company.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning,” Guillaume Jesel, president and CEO of Tom Ford and luxury business development at The Estée Lauder Companies, said in a statement.

“I want to thank Peter for his collaboration since Tom Ford Fashion became part of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group. Along with his team, Peter has contributed to this important initial phase of development. I wish him all the best in his next chapter,” Lelio Gavazza, CEO of Tom Ford Fashion, added.

Hawkings worked alongside Ford for almost 25 years, serving as the senior vice president of the brand’s menswear division before taking on the creative director title in April of last year. At the time, Ford stated that Hawkings had been “instrumental in the success of the brand” and that he was “an incredibly talented leader with tremendous industry experience.”

Tom Ford himself exited his eponymous label at the beginning of 2023, after his company was sold to Estée Lauder in a deal valued at $2.8 billion USD in November of the previous year. In the deal, Zegna Group maintains a 20-year license agreement to produce the imprint’s fashion line, with the option to renew for 10 additional years.

Zegna’s main goal is to expand Tom Ford’s womenswear sales, which, according to Vogue, comprised 30% of the brand’s revenues in 2023. As Hawkings came from a menswear background, it’s likely that his successor will have a stronger focus on that division.

Hawkings has not yet offered a statement on the announcement.
