Imagine if Patrick Mahomes called it quits today to pursue baseball. Michael Jordan, still considered by many as the greatest player in basketball history, once did that when he retired in 1993, after leading his Chicago Bulls to three consecutive NBA titles. Despite being in the prime of his career, Jordan had nothing else to prove, but chose to return several years later out of sheer will to add another three-peat to his list of accolades — a testament to his resilience, evolution and greatness.
Nike originally marked that grand reentrance by releasing the Tinker Hatfield-designed Air Jordan 10 “Steel”, a minimalist high-top sneaker that is rumored to make its own comeback in 2025. Releasing in its OG “Steel” colorway, the shoe features a white tumbled leather upper, complemented by a black secondary tone that curves from the heel down to the laces, finished with gray stripes that wrap from the eyelets across the throat. Staying true to the original, details include a blue Jumpman on the outsole (as opposed to the red iteration used on the 2005 and 2013 “Steel” retros), as well as a list of career highlights paying homage to Jordan’s first 10 years in the NBA along the stripes.
Sneaker loyalists will rejoice to know that the forthcoming pair will also feature the contentious toebox that Jordan himself wasn’t fond of, which is why it disappeared on all forthcoming pairs. Jordan first wore the OG “Steel” sneaker in Scottie Pippen’s charity event in September of 1994. The return of the Air Jordan 10 OG “Steel” is expected to release on Nike for $200 USD in Fall 2025.
