Marvel Studios‘ executive producer Brad Winderbaum has finally opened up about the recent MCU struggles. It is no surprise that Marvel has been facing challenges that require an improvement to its TV output.

Winderbraum discusses the recent troubles and how the studio plans to adjust its TV offerings. In a recent conversation reported by ComicBook, Winderbaum spoke of the struggles at a press junket for the upcoming Disney+ TV show, Echo. With films like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels being major flops at the box office and critically, Marvel has been hit hard. The much-hyped TV series Secret Invasion also received poor reviews from fans and critics alike. Furthermore, due the Jonathan Majors‘ sexual assault charges, much of Marvel’s storylines were halted.

In discussing what is next for Marvel and how they should improve, Winderbraum said, “We’ve learned a lot. We produced a lot of content very quickly, and we’re primarily a filmmaking company. So, you can see that our first round of shows have a very movie-like structure: they arc out the characters by the end; they feel like a standalone limited series.” The Hollywood Reporter previously shared last year that Marvel has been following a traditional production format for its TV content. they relied too much on film executives to run the shows as opposed to showrunners and depended heavily on post-production and re-shoots to fix what was not working. Winderbraum said at the Echo press junket, “Moving forward, our content is going to feel a lot more like television. It kind of drives toward the horizon; drives towards the future, and keeps people engaged for longer periods of time, in the more leaned-back setting of your living room. To set it apart, frankly, from the big, cinematic event experiences in the movie theater.”

2024 is shaping up to be a year of change for the MCU. Echo arrives on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10 while Deadpool 3 will be the only MCU film released in 2024.
