This past fall, Callaway‘s in-house putter brand Odyssey released a new line of flatsticks with AI designed faces intended to help golfers better control distance. Although that kind of technology is new to putters, AI has become a regular presence in driver and wood engineering the last few years. But with the long game it’s more a case of maximizing distance than controlling it, and this continues to be the case with Callaway’s just announced line of woods and irons: Paradym Ai Smoke.

The lineup is similarly named to last year’s, which was labeled simply Paradym. Like in 2023, the Paradym Ai Smoke drivers arrive in several different models, albeit with slightly different designations this time. While MAX was the game improvement model last year, now Ai Smoke MAX is the standard head which will suit the majority of players. Triple Diamond, which is identified by a trio of diamonds on the sole, continues to be the smaller head size, lower spin option for the elite player. Rounding out the choices are MAX D, which appears to be most comparable to last year’s MAX, and finally MAX Fast which is aimed at slower swing speed players seeking distance gains at all costs.

Technology-wise, there are a few updates for 2024 that golfers will be focusing on. The first of those is the new Ai Smart Face, which is a slight reconfiguration of last year’s AI-designed face formulated with 80,000 lines of code. The overwhelming library of data was collected from 250,000 golfers, then turned into a potential 50,000 different face iterations until the final one was selected. The other main update is to the 360° Carbon Chassis which Callaway says is now 15% lighter thanks to an internal titanium support structure. The weight freed up allowed the engineers to redistribute it with forgiveness and launch conditions in mind.

In addition to the four driver models mentioned, the new Ai Smart Face also graces four models of fairway woods, three hybrids and three sets of irons. The drivers are priced at $600 USD, fairway woods at $350 USD, hybrids at $280 USD and irons at $1000 USD for a seven piece set. Golfers can begin pre-ordering the Ai Smoke line on January 12, and then the clubs will arrive at retail on January 26.
