Whether traveling to a new country, hiking a mountain trail or taking a fishing trip off the coast, summer is the season to venture outside your comfort zone and into unfamiliar environments. Walmart’s “Black & Unlimited Adventure Series” spotlights stories of exploration and travel in communities that are often underrepresented in the outdoors. Leveraging the power of representation, the program aims to embolden marginalized groups and embrace opportunities that lead to eye-opening experiences, especially in nature. As part of Walmart’s “Black & Unlimited Adventure Series,” the program profiles travel creator N’Dea Irvin-Choy, who utilizes her platform to provide valuable travel tips, tricks and information for the next generation of adventurers.

N’Dea Irvin-Choy is a Los Angeles-based content creator boasting a following of 285k on TikTok and 7.5k on Instagram. Irvin-Choy actually changed her career as an engineer to become a full-time content creator, and her popularity grew by sharing her experiences traveling alone as a Black woman abroad in Paris, Marseille, Vai Thorens and Mykonos. “I think if more people traveled, the world would be a better place because we would gain an understanding of people different from us,” Irvin-Choy said. During her solo travels, Irvin-Choy provides aspiring solo adventures with pertinent information her audience can use for trotting the globe like planning, budgeting and safety precautions for solo women travelers of color.

Along with Irvin-Choy’s fascination for travel, her passion for diversifying the travel industry is also a top priority in this mission. Through her platform, Irvin-Choy reveals the tools and resources necessary for safely navigating different places and cultures where a person of color might find challenging. One of the useful tips she gives is imploring women of color who travel alone to not carry an abundance of physical currency with them, as a safety precaution, they should utilize a credit card instead. She also advises travelers to look into an E-Sim card for their phone. Abroad an E-Sim card is useful for having consistent access to internet service in case Wi-Fi isn’t available, while also not paying international fees for phone calls and text messages. Ultimately, Irvin-Choy’s actions create avenues of access and visibility to underrepresented communities in the travel industry. Irvin-Choy hopes to motivate younger generations to step outside their comfort zones and uncover new experiences, “As a Black woman, solo traveling means stepping outside of my comfort zone by doing something none of my family members has never done before,” Irvin-Choy said. You can catch N’Dea and all of her travel tips on Instagram, TikTok under the handle @bmekween on both platforms.

In addition to spotlighting influential talents for Walmart’s “Black & Unlimited Adventure Series,” the program also champions Black-owned businesses and products. Tying in the brand’s outdoor adventure theme for the summer season, Walmart is highlighting Bolden’s SPF 30 Brightening Moisturizer. Bolden is a brand with a wide range of skincare offerings, providing an array of beauty formulas crafted from natural ingredients for people with melanated skin. Its popular SPF 30 Brightening Moisturizer acts both as a skin-hydrating serum and mineral sunscreen. You can purchase Bolden’s moisturizer on Walmart for $18 USD.
