maharishi's New Pre-Fall Collection Explores Japanese Warfare
Featuring details that pay homage to the Ukiyo-e artists of Edo Japan.
Hardy Blechman’s maharishi has just presented a brand-new collection for Fall/Winter 2023 and it takes inspiration from Japanese martial arts centered around the warfare and strategy employed by Ninjas during feudal Japan.
Whenever maharishi drops a new collection, the UK imprint often taps into historical themes that span across foreign lands. For example, recent drops have visited water and the northern hills across Thailand, celebrated the Year of the Rabbit, and even reimagined classic U.S. army uniforms.
Now, maharishi is tapping into unconventional techniques of warfare such as infiltration, sabotage, and assassination during the age of the Samurai, where ninjas were also referred to as Shinobi as they acted in stealth.
With this in mind, maharishi’s new collection reimagines the traditional dress of the Shinobi while silhouettes have been adapted to showcase maharishi’s camouflage Bonsai Forest print. Tailoring welcomes the use of Polaris Cotton, while heavyweight organic cotton and hemp arrives in a new seasonal hue of “Murasaki Purple.”
Original Snopants have returned to the fold once again, complemented with woodblock prints and hand-machined embroidery detailing of peace cranes and warriors that pay homage to the Ukiyo-e artists of Edo Japan.
You can take a closer look at the new collection from maharishi above and it is available to shop via the brand’s official website now.
