GOOMHEO's "RIDERS" Are Hot and Heavy for FW23
Showcasing “grungy beefcakes with a penchant for big boys’ toys.”
You won’t be able to take your eyes off GOOMHEO‘s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, “RIDERS.”
Goom Heo, the South Korean designer that found her way to Springfield, Illinois, and later London to study at Central Saint Martins before being plucked to join Lulu Kennedy‘s Fashion East, has a knack for creating daring menswear ensembles. For Spring/Summer 2023, the designer sexed things up with raunchy cowboys, and FW23 is no exception.
“RIDERS” is a collection that showcases “grungy beefcakes with a penchant for big boys’ toys” and “party boys, who frolic in streaked and foiled denim twinsets — constructed with interlocking panels and cutouts at the crotch for convenience’s sake.” As such, we find cracked leather outfits comprising workwear-inspired sleeveless vests that are elevated with pullies and pouches, paired with a tiny set of high-waisted hot pants.
Elsewhere, denim meets ribbed knit paneling on an elongated top that sees folds of dyed jean material create a sort of pleated skirt, voyeuristically revealing just enough. This is the case throughout: peekaboo holes slash into shoulder and chest regions, embellished mustard leather is cut into cropped jacket tops and Clueless-esque mini skirts, and studded leather is intricately designed into a pair of crotch-hugging short shorts, buckled up for an extra kinky touch.
But GOOMHEO also offers a way to cover up, delivering denim that cowls around the neck and distorts one’s proportions like a straight jacket. Likewise, burnt-orange denim coats fall to the floor, and faux fur wraps around the body à la Rick Owens’ style.
