Crenshaw Skate Club Uncovers Its "Skate to Empower" Apparel Capsule

Tobey McIntosh started his label Crenshaw Skate Club to utilize as a platform to shine a light on the inner-city skateboarding community of Los Angeles as well as highlight Black culture and its creatives. In the past, the brand has done striking collaborations with the likes of Jordan Brand and the Los Angeles Clippers, but this season it’s beefing up its inline apparel category with a brand new “Skate to Empower” apparel capsule.

McIntosh and his team have prepared a new range of graphic hoodies and tees along with a fresh batch of skate decks for this initiative, all of which are designed to give African American skaters their flowers. “I wanted to make pieces that highlighted and empowered African American skateboarders,” he says. “My goal with this project was to make something inner-city skaters could look at, feel empowered and represented.” This is reflected in the sticker-esque graphics that come printed on the pieces which bear empowering messages like “Black is beautiful,” “All Power to the Skaters” and “Black Skateboarding Union.”

The collection is slated to launch on May 6 via the Crenshaw Skate Club site at 2pm EDT. Prices will range from $38 USD-$110 USD.
