20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for a new original sci-fi film titled The Creator. Amidst the recent obsession with and proliferation of AI in the real world, The Creator is set in a universe in which humans have been at war with AI for a decade with no indication of slowing down.

“As long as AI is a threat, we will never stop hunting them. This is a fight for our existence,” says a human General in the trailer.

The Creator is centered around the ex-special forces agent Joshua (John David Washington) who’s recruited to hunt down and kill the architect behind the advanced AI following the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan). The trailer shows Joshua and his crew eventually finding what they’re looking for as Joshua steps into a highly secure vault to discover an AI in the form of a child named Alfie (Madeleine Yuna Voyles) who has the power to end the war as well as mankind itself.

“We’re the same. We can’t go to heaven. Because you’re not good and I’m not a person,” Alfie is heard saying.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One), The Creator premieres in theaters September 29. Take a look at the teaser trailer above and stay tuned for more.
