New York City-based book publisher and lifestyle company Assouline has revealed a new book, Bauhaus Style, on the renowned Bauhaus movement that began in Germany in 1919.

Falling under the umbrella of modernism, Bauhaus has been one of the most widely discussed art schools of the 20th century due to its fusion of crafts and fine arts, which traversed design, art, fashion, film, culture and photography. Written by the curator of the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, Mateo Kries, Assouline’s new title looks at the workings and community that was birthed from the art school and its modernist aesthetic that has pervaded the globe.

“Let us strive for, conceive and create the new building of the future, which will unite every discipline—architecture, sculpture and painting—and which will one day rise heavenward from the million hands of craftspeople as a clear symbol of a new belief to come,” said Walter Gropius in the Bauhaus Manifesto (1919).

A part of Assouline’s Style series, the new title manages to look at both history, prevalence and how the movement’s influences continue to be a mainstay of contemporary culture. Additionally, the book features photography from Julien Scussel and a catalog of never before seen imagery, which has been the product of a six-year process.

Take a peek at the book in the gallery above. Retailing for $105 USD, Assouline’s Bauhaus Style is available now for pre-order online.
