TAG Heuer has officially unveiled the Monaco Speed 12, a limited-edition timepiece debuting at the Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Grand Prix de Monaco. Celebrating the enduring motorsport heritage of the original 1969 Monaco – famed for being the world’s first square, water-resistant chronograph – this new iteration channels the adrenaline of the racetrack into high-end watchmaking.

Developed in collaboration with La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the watch features the automatic Calibre TH84-00, which offers a mesmerizing reinterpretation of the jumping hour complication. The movement serves as an ode to high-performance 12-cylinder engines, utilizing twelve rotating pistons that circle the dial to indicate the hour. As the central minute hand completes its revolution, one piston returns to its starting position while the next rotates 90 degrees to reveal the current hour.

This intricate mechanical spectacle is housed within a 40mm Grade 5 titanium case, suspended by four DLC-coated open-worked arches that maximize depth and transparency. The openworked dial evokes the precision of engine blocks, with vertical grooves recalling high‑performance covers and a skeletonized minute hand inspired by dashboard instruments. A black rubber strap with textile embossing and red stitching completes the sporty aesthetic, underscoring the watch’s racing DNA.

Retailing at 70,000 CHF (approx. $87,000 USD, the Monaco Speed 12 is limited to an exclusive run of just 50 individually numbered pieces and will be available in December through TAG Heuer boutiques and select retailers worldwide.
