Up Close With The Nike Dunk Low "Virgil Abloh™ x Futura Laboratories"
You can bid on eight pairs of the rare kicks through Sotheby’s auction until April 14.
Much like the first Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 release, Virgil Abloh‘s estate decided to release The Nike Dunk Low “Virgil Abloh™ x Futura Laboratories” through a special Sotheby’s auction. The kicks — which were first previewed on the runway of the Paris Fashion Week Off-White™ Spring/Summer 2020 show — resurfaced last month, but we caught an up-close perspective of them on the first day that bidding went live here.
In addition to the eight pairs now being available to bid on, Sotheby’s has also pieced together a special installation for the shoes that is situated in the lobby of the company’s office and gallery in New York. “The exhibition echoes the motifs present on the Dunk Lows, particularly on the Orange and Dark Blue pairs,” says Brahm Wachter, Head of Streetwear & Modern Collectables at Sotheby’s. “We have been in discussions with Nike, The Virgil Abloh Foundation and Futura for a few months regarding the highly anticipated release of these eight sneakers. With The Virgil Abloh Foundation officially launching in 2023, it was decided that this is the time to shine a spotlight on the design and to raise awareness for the Foundation.”
