Sotheby's Is Auctioning Off Eight Pairs of the The Nike Dunk Low "Virgil Abloh™ x Futura Laboratories"

You could go on for days listing out the bevy of internet-breaking moments that Virgil Abloh created during his runway shows, and one of his biggest occurred during his Off-White™ Spring/Summer 2020 show in Paris when he debuted his Nike Dunk Low “Virgil Abloh™ x Futura Laboratories” collaboration. The kicks created blended the design DNA of both creative forces and served as a letter from Abloh to Leonard “Futura” McGurr as he acknowledged him as one of the pioneers in art, culture and the Swoosh’s collaborative catalog. “The ‘Virgil Abloh™ x Futura Laboratories’ Dunks were so special to Virgil, not only for their role as an anchor piece of the SS20 collection, but as a symbol of collaboration and creativity, two principles he always prioritized,” says Shannon Abloh. “The Dunks represent Virgil’s unique lens on art and culture, and this auction with Sotheby’s further aids in keeping his legacy alive.”

It’s been three years since the kicks walked the runway, and many sneakerheads have been wondering about if these were ever going to hit the market. Thanks to Sotheby’s, we now have our answer as it just announced an exclusive eight-pair auction which will see proceeds benefitting the Virgil Abloh Foundation. This marks the first and only occasion that the public will be able to get their hands on a pair.

Bidders can shoot their shots at the eight pairs from April 5-April 14 in the online auction, and the kicks will start at $1 USD. Additionally, the shoes will be on view at Sotheby’s New York in a free, public exhibition from April 5-April 13.
