After contributing to Skarstedt Gallery‘s Faces & Figures exhibition and dropping a range of new “TIME OFF” BFF figures earlier this year, KAWS is tapping back into his collaborations bag to announce his first-ever venture with a professional sports team. The New York-based artist has joined hands with the Brooklyn Nets to design the team’s 2023-2024 City Edition uniforms.

“As a proud Brooklyn resident, I was thrilled when the Nets asked me to create a new uniform design,” said KAWS. “The history, community, and passion of this borough create an energy that inspires my studio practice, the players, and the fans. My design aims to capture the vibrancy that we experience daily when navigating Brooklyn.” The court-ready threads are brought to life with notable elements of KAWS’ works such as the abstract paintings and vivid color palette from his 10-part artwork “TENSION.” The lettering of the “NETS” spell-out that runs across the chest is remixed with the artist’s graphic font, and the KAWS’ signature is woven above the jock tag. Additionally, his signature “XX” insignias are propped up on the waistband of the shorts.

The KAWS x Brooklyn Nets 2023-24 City Edition uniforms and merchandise collection will be available for purchase online at netsstore.com and at the Nets’ team store at Barclays Center this fall.

For other news, KAWS launched a cashmere blanket collaboration with House of Voltaire.
