UNDERCOVER Revisits 'Star Wars' and Disney Themes
Graphics from a galaxy far, far away are joined by Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and more in this expansive capsule.

When it comes to Star Wars and Disney, Jun Takahashi is no stranger to bringing its beloved designs to life. Over the years, this has ranged from retrofitting Star Wars graphics with UNDERCOVER motifs to officially licensed capsules. Takahashi’s retrospective UNDERCOVER collection “The Greatest” for Spring/Summer 2016 revisited designs from years past — notably reworking Star Wars-themed pieces with “SITH” and “JEDI” text. More recently, he and the UNDERCOVER team leveraged various Disney IPs to create a three-way collaboration with GU. Now, following a brief teaser last week, a detailed look at the collection showcases everything from printed leather jackets to cropped graphic tees.
First, an assortment of Star Wars goods reminisces over the Original Trilogy — including an emphasis on Return of the Jedi in celebration of the movie’s 40th anniversary. Two leather jackets lead the range, leveraging UNDERCOVER’s rider silhouette with full-sized back prints featuring a menacing Darth Vader and a poster design for A New Hope respectively. The former also sports a familiar “SITH” motif at the front in white. Another callback to the brand’s SS16 collection comes with the reversible black MA-1 bomber jacket. White “SITH” text appears at the chest with a visual depicting the destruction of Vader’s helmet on the back. When reversed, an all-over print sees a bevy of TIE Fighters and X-Wing Starfighters fighting alongside an A-Wing, TIE Interceptor, the Millennium Falcon and a looming Death Star II in the background. From there, Yoda appears on two shirt and short sets while new takes on 2016’s “SITH” and “JEDI” pieces appear with a special Return of the Jedi-themed tee closing out the range.
Pivoting to the traditional Disney characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse are joined by Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh, Bambi and Marie from The Aristocats across a variety of apparel and accessory options. A luxe flair lands on a stadium jacket featuring Mickey Mouse on both the front and back. Three cardigans have also been prepared with pastel flavors carrying an embroidered character on each. Cropped tees and standard cut t-shirts playfully showcase the aforementioned characters while accessories including a bag, wallet and pouch in two looks rounds out the entire capsule.
Release for the Star Wars and Disney x UNDERCOVER collection begins via a pre-launch at Hankyu Umeda and Isetan Shinjuku starting April 26. Shortly thereafter, UNDERCOVER stores — including its web store — are set to release the capsule on April 29.
